Ok Just what i expected. 43 lbs. 1's 21lbs. 2's
180 traps on a week set.
Darn little crabs are eating my bait. Usually this time of year a piece of bait will last at least a week. Because of the little buggers many traps didn't have any left over bait. They ate 'em all up. No bait No crabs! Baited heavier this time maybe something will show next week.
Sorry having problems posting pictures.
Caught a crab with a white claw. If i can get things working I'll post a pic.
Ronnie

Ron,
Nice catch. Just curious. How deep is the water where you have your traps set out? The reason I'm asking, where I crab, the present bout of cool weather has knocked the water temperature down from 64.8 degrees to 59.9 degrees.

Those #1 look really nice. I would love to have that basket of crabs in my steamer right now. They look much more blue then they look in summer. The water is probably clearer right now?

When I threw out water temps were around 65*. Depth of the water is 13 to 14 feet. Lately we have had North winds which make the south shore of Lake Pontchartrain muddy. Today through Sunday the temps will be around 60*-65* daytime and 40*-45* at night. Water temps might drop to low 60's which might put a little sting to the crabbing but next week temps are suppose to be in the middle 70's which will warm things up rapidly. I'll have to check to see how much shipping is to N.J. Who knows we might be eating Louisiana crabs next month. Ronnie

Ron,
Thanks for the info concerning the depth of the water. I mostly crab off of jetty rocks and piers so the water is no more than 3'-4' so it looks like I'll have to wait for the water temperature to get up to 70 degrees (or more) and holds there before I start crabbing again in earnest.

As long as they aren't boiled. You apparently left before he boiled 'em at the Wye party last year! They supprised the heck out of me! Not at all what I expected!

DP thanks but I think I'll pass. Backpack is all I need. Temps are going to be cold this weekend--50's. Next week looks better.
Checked a few traps this afternoon with mixed results. Few singles, 1 double, last trap had 3, but 4 didn't have a crab. All on a 3 day set. Caught 1- 2.5 inch crab that was a red liner. Good sign. Surface water temp dropped to 58*. Probably will drop a little more before it warms up.
