Ok I did a search on this and got nothing . Does anyone have recommendations for seasoning a new trotline ? Do you soak it in bay water ? Do you soak it in old fish water or chick neck juice ? What do most people do ? Thanks , Paul

Paul, Maybe some Everglades Seasoning or JO#2 would work but I would just bait it, lay it, run it and enjoy it! The better you lay it the more you will get off of it. Grin I have never done anything to a new line except use it. Good Luck!

In the days of cotton line you had to soak it or it floated but with nylon just bait it and crab away...

Someone once told me shrimp oil if there is such a thing.  He was dipping his butt off!   But if i was to season a trotline it would be in razor clam juice.  Dont think its neccessary!

Seasoning a trot line ??

a salty brine will work

soaking it in salt water and flexing and stretching the line will help to limber it up

Old, dirty lines catch better than gleaming, white, new lines.  Just my experience.

Only if you are picking them off the line without a net!!!   Grin

Paul, I do have one tip to season your line.  Go catch crabs with it- frequently as weather, time and the lil' Missus will permit!    Wink

I read the fla regs . It's says it's legal to trot line in Fla. I agree the river stinks . Put some pots out last summer and when we pulled them I thought we were gona barf . Crabs were good but after that smell I lost my appetite .supposedly it's from vegitation that sinks and rots on the bottom . To me it seems like a sewer is emptying into the river . How did your crab trip go ? Anything decent ?
