You know I don't like O'Malley but this is an increase I can get behind. I mean come on 24 bucks to register any size boat, it is kinda cheap let's be honest here. The increase would affect me, but I'm willing to eat it if the money goes to the right things such as the Bay

Go ahead and pay it if you want, I prefer the 24.00.

MD has enough money to do whatever it pleases, it just needs to manage it better and not on our backs any more.

You shouldnt be behind any tax hike, but rather getting behind making them accountable for the money they already have!!!

I prefer 24 bucks as well as does everyone else, but just step back and think about it a 80ft boat 24 bucks, a 20ft boat 24 bucks, etc. It really doesn't make sense at all. I'm all for making them accountable for the money they already have but will never happen we as Americans are to scared to do that (sad to say). As long as the money goes into the Bay which I think it will (isnt this the DNR's thing) I'll be fine with it

Ah to be young.....

the way it works in maryland is .......... if any money goes directly to a single fund........ the state reduces the money it gives from the general fund  to that specific fund by that amount.

so it goes to a specific fund but.... the amount of that fund doesn't increase or it may go lower depending on what the state contributes from the general fund

so they are not lying..... sorta

 laugh laugh laugh

remember baltimore city and montgomery county only voted for owemally

The higher fees would not begin to address how the state would pay for its share of the near $2 billion proposed purple line connecting suburban Montgomery and Prince George’s counties, or the proposed red line expansion to the transit system in Baltimore, comonly called the "Loot Rail"

Today, the MTA's costs far outpace its revenues, burdening Maryland taxpayers with a deficit of more than $600 million. The General Assembly, in its sessions that ended this week, pushed the MTA to increase bus and MARC train fares so that they cover 35 percent of operating costs rather than the current 28 percent to 30 percent, an increase the O'Malley administration opposes.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/marylands-misuse-of-gas-tax-dollars/2011/10/26/gIQABeP9WM_story.html

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/maryland-politics/post/15-cent-gas-tax-hike-urged-in-maryland/2011/10/25/gIQAJQSPGM_blog.html

so they are spending more money to expand a system that is only paying 30 percent of it's daily operating expenses

HMMMMM

The reason there's no money in the Waterway Fund is because OweMalley robbed it to fund his pet projects (such as reduced college tuition for illegal immigrants). Same way he raided the Transportation Fund and we had to have all of the ridiculous toll increases. According to the local newspaper, his current budget calls for raiding the Waterway Fund for another $2.4 Million this year, THAT'S why he needs the additional revenue - not to fund DNR projects. Wake up voters in Maryland - vote OUT the leaders of the House, Senate and the Governor (next time, don't vote for Brown, OweMalley can't run again) before it's too late! OweMalley is feathering his nest for a run to Washington. It's either going to be for Makulski's Senate seat or a shot at the White House. Heaven help us if the masses are this stupid again.

I just read an article about O'Shmalley wanting to raise the toilet tax by $45.00 a year. You can't even [curd] in Maryland without paying a tax.

I like the part where Miller is saying he doesn't think he can get the gas tax passed this session - so we should probably have another Special Session later so they can sock it to us again like they did a couple of years ago. People in this State need to wake up - one party rule is a ticket for disaster.

"The bill also includes a voluntary non-motorized decal for boats such as kayaks and canoes for $12 every two years"

Does this mean non-motorized boats need to be registered now?  Small, Non-motorized boats, under 16 feet do not need state registration.

To me, if it's "VOLUNTARY", it's not required it's up to you. Just renewed my stickers for 2 years - looks like next time it will be Federally Documented.

Why would someone want to volunteer to give away $12 for a non-motorized sticker if it's not required to be registered?  Why even debate it in a House Bill?   Huh Huh
