Set out 110 traps on thursday. Had one of those rare days where the lake was slicker than snail snot. I will raise next week either Wednesday or Thursday weather permitting.

Which power line marker did you start your set?  If you went NE you should be close to 121.  Which way did you set your line?  North or East.  East you should run very close to where I am.
My new set  started just past the parish line heading West "u" turned just short of the spilway and stopped just past the gray well.  Next 48 should put me back at the parish line.

Hope I get some weather like that on Tuesday.

The line starts about about 1/2 mile out from north south powerline. I made a teardrop shape so I would finish almost right back where I started. It has its moment. Usually when the guys are doing well on the east/west powerlines, I'm not catching and vice versa. I know a couple guys that fish by parish line and that place is consistent. This weeks weather looks good so far but you know how that goes. The guys who have traps out right now are telling me to expect a crab a trap raise right now. That should cover gas. Hope it is better than that. I'll give you a call sometime this week.

Water temp dropped to 59*.  I wouldn't expect much on a week set.  I'm running tomorrow watch for post.

How deep are you guys crabbing? Great pics.. Looks kinda like the bay in the fall, except the power lines.

Along the power lines it is about 12 feet.  Lake pontchartrain is 24 miles wide and only 16 feet at its deepest.  I'll send numbers tomorrow to figure out were we are. 

If you google weather.com type in zip code 70062.  That will take you to where I live (Kenner).  Go North to Lk Pontchartrain.  Zoom in until you see the East/West powerlines.  You will see a channel between civilization and swamp. That's where my 2 sets start.  Keep going West and you will see the powerlines connect going North/South.  That's where Joey is.

Just did.. very cool!! That's a huge lake. I can see the power lines very clearly. Google earth is super cool.

Just checked the water temperature close to where I crab off the banks and piers in shallow water and the water temperature is 58.8 degrees. Today, tomorrow and Thursday, the air temperatures will be in the upper 70s. That'll warm the water up, but we have a small weather front coming in for Thursday afternoon/night which should lower the water temperature again. 

For us shallow water bank and pier crabbers, the middle of March is when we'll start crabbing again.

the depth finder says I'm at 11.9 ft. . I like to get a little past the lines before i start putting traps out and I like to go further out as i set. Many of the guys fishing seem to follow the powerlines. you end up with a lot of crablines intersecting. it can get to be a PIA. right now, i have two lines that i intersect. by the time it gets rolling in the summer, i expect there will be at least three more that cross me. it really isn't much of a big deal except when you are trying to follow your line in the morning glare, it's hard to know which cork is yours out of the three you see. one thing i have noticed in the few years I've been commercially crab fishing, the difference in 1ft. of water depth can make a world of difference in numbers in the traps.. also, Ronnie has mentioned water color before, that makes a huge difference. half the line can be in greenish/brown water and be great and half the line can be in gin/clear water and stink. i love fishing this lake.. it is addictive.

You should see all the crab pots in the bay. You could walk across them in July. Hardly get you boat through them.
