I was looking in my back yard as always for deer. Just as it was getting dark I see a few come out of the woods. Then when I looked closer I saw horns! I could not believe it had not dropped them. Then another buck came out then another one with his horns still attached. There were 2 four pointers 1 six pinter and a wide 8 pointer in a bachelor herd. There was a small deer with them that might have dropped his antlers already. Maybe the mild winter let the deer keep there horns longer this year. Has anyone else seen any bucks with their horns still attached?

i havnt seen any myself, but i havnt been lookin. my neighbor that owns the farm behind me, said he had seen two 8 points the other day while he was waiting on the little ones bus. they say that the length of the days days triggers a drop in testosterone hence the horns fall off. when i talk to people from the far western part of the state where the weather is allways colder. seems like they drop horns before ours do here in washington county. so im blameing it on the mild weather. i aint complaining about this great weather tho, because i didnt have to cut alot of wood this winter love it!!!!!  i have allways wonderd about this myself may be some one can shed a little light on this?

I have seen video of a six point mounting a doe in the middle of march in Frederick Co.MD. It was on one of Jim Shockey's shows a few years back. I have killed deer in late muzzleloader season that still had spots on them, it had obviously been dropped not long before it was harvested. I guess it's possible with some of the mild winters we have had over the past serveral years that things are starting to shift around some. I have read that the rut doesn't start until January in some parts aof Alabama, I also have seen footage of bucks in full rut in July in areas of Florida. I used to think it had something to do with length of daylight but now I don't think that explains it all either.....

Biologist here try to open rifle season with the rut.  I use to hunt North Louisiana near the Arkansas border.  Those deer start scraping the ground in early October and the first rut around the 20th.  Just 30 miles South where I hunt now the rut doesn't start until Dec. 3rd-16th.  Deer near the Texas border start late September.  Deer near the Mississippi boarder don't start until late December early January.

Different types of deer start their ruts differently.  Here we have white tails but some have a long nose and some short.  Feed is also a factor.  Mother nature takes care of the babies.

this is one of the several I have caught on the trail cam lately.  Keep in mind, these are the scrub bucks that are coming into the corn piles.

That will be a nice buck in 2 years. There was a nice 10 pointer or possible 12 that I saw last year but have not seen him this year. I hope he was not killed as I wanted to see what he looked like this year.

We have several on our property that I have seen or have pics of that will be really nice in the next year or so.  Here is another from a different stand on the same property and within 20 feet of my stand but on a day I wasnt there.  He will be nice next year also and he is still walking.  Saw him on Sunday as I was moving a few stands around.
