« on: February 22, 2012, 03:55:45 PM »

As I just bought A home on the barnegat bay. I have noticed a number of boats in the area docks with what I'll call drag units on them (02-19-12) As a man who as been down the bay for many years fishing and crabing and claming I have not seen this before. Is this something new to me?

I don't know much about dredging, but scraping the way I use the word is using a hand net to scrape them off pilings, shallow bottoms, docks, bridges, and so on...Charlie

Auto dippers? They run along side of the boat and the crabs come off the trotline into them. Maybe that's what it is..

I don't think so in NJ with a 150' length limit on trotlines...Charlie

Try posting a picture - maybe someone can give you an answer if we can see what you're talking about.

Yeah, tell me about it.   Angry

I was hoping to utilize a trot line this year, then I learned about the limit.  I would love to talk to the imbecile who created that regulation.

   capt  mike
yes there is dreging going  on  in barnegat   i have  a license  and  a dredge
but  you may  be seeing  drag boat  for  grass shrimp  or   fishing  off shore
the bigger  clam boats would  be  in barnegat light       as for scapping   i
do  a lot  in the warmer  weather   when  crabs  are up  on the flats

                                                                                   oc

seeya in  the bay  ( barnegat )

Thanks for the info. I'm not planning on dredging, was just curious and couldn't find it on the NJ site. It's been a mild winter but still a little to cold for me to be out there during dredging season...Charlie
