Teresa, At the get together you stated you wanted me to post a picture of a Bog Turtle Glyptemys (formerly Clemmys) muhlenbergii. Here it is, full grown adult; this is the one most of research is on. Federally endangered and protected in every state of occurrence.

Here is a close up of the temporal blotch. I've been studying this species for almost 40 years throughout its range!

Reading the posts I gather that you have knowledge of turtles. I have a question
that you may be able to answer. My neighbor had about 35 turtles in his back yard. They were away for two weeks and when they returned they found that something had chewed a hole in the fence and only 5 turtles are left. Question ?Is it possibile that something ate the turtles,or did they just run away ?

A Raccoon probably chewed the hole in the fence. What was the diameter of the hole and what was the fencing material? They will get in and eat the turtles if the turtles are small. Or they will eat the legs off and leave the shell. They can, and will, carry them outside the enclosure for consumption. Were there any empty shell outside the pen? The turtles could also have found the hole and simply walked away!

WOWWWW..... he is absolutely Beauuutifulllll.............  Hey Bogman I rescued a turtle just like that, same size, colors etc.,in late May of this year, in Fairhill Park in MD, it's a 6,000 acre reserve with all sorts of terrain....... marsh, streams, river, trees, etc, etc, is it possible they live there too? I was driving along to the parking area near the Nature Center to go hiking,  and SCREAAACCHHHHH put the brakes on!!!! Strolling along at "turtle speed" was a turtle just like you describe in front of my car and heading to the other side of the road. A truck with a big horse trailer was coming our way. I stopped jumped outa my vehicle and stopped the oncoming truck, and then scooped up the turtle and took him to a nearby stream bank and let him go........ after lecturing him about the hazards of crossing the road with out looking!!!!!!! He didn't appear to give a hoot lol......................

Daisycup, Yes they are in that area and is probably what you saw. My blessings to you for the save; good job! They need all the help they can get! That park is, I believe, a Wildlife Management Area.

I think they ran away. Talked to him today and  he found 8 of them in the next yard. The fence was made of wood and he found no shells. Funny thing, I could not tell you what size they were cause I never saw them . He had them for forty years and I never knew he had them till two years ago when I had a tree removed and the fellow that was cutting the tree saw them while he was up in the tree overlooking the fence. No one can accuse me of being a nosy neighbor Grin
