Hi I am new to crabbing and I am going to Gulf Shores, AL on the 3rd of August and wanted to try to catch some blue crabs I bought me a few folding star traps and was going to put chicken necks in them for bait. But can I throw it in the Gulf right off the beach at night time or should I go to a pier any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Dustin

First, stay out of the Gulf at night or you may become something's dinner!  You won't catch Blue Crabs off the beach.  You will probably need an Alabama saltwater fishing license, then find a pier or bridge to crab from.  Check with a bait shop on times and places to go.  My first time crabbing was at Orange Beach off the west end of the seawall and I had really good luck - but that was in '68!  Here is the story.

You don't need a license to crab in Alabama as long as it is recreational.
