I am crabbing in the Long Island Sound out of Connecticut and have always crabbed off docks and other in shore structures. This season I will have a boat  Grin and was wondering where the best place to crab is when you have a boat. Its only 16 ft and can go in fairly shallow places if needed. Any tips would be great!

I've heard the mouth of the CT river and up into the smaller tributaries can be great.  Good luck!

Last couple of years the hot spot has been the Black Hall river at the mouth of the CT river.
Only problem is you need a boat.

Looks like the OP has one, should be a nice season for him!  I have one for sale and will let it go cheap, with lots of extras, in case you are (or anyone else here in CT is) interested. 1976 Manatee 17' runabout, 1980 60 horse Johnson with new water pump, on a Cox galv tilt-roller-trailer with reasonably new axle, hubs and wheels. Depthfinder and GPS are some of the extras. Solid boat, wide beam, steady ride, old school, PM if interested. $1,000 firm for any local crabber!

Sorry not interested.
Especially with $5.00 a gallon gas more likely as not this summer.

Thanks for the response Horsin.  I agree on gas, even if a 60 doesn't eat much -- still not cheap, at least compared to dropping some traps off the dock, which works just fine for us.

Thanks Ziggy, I have a forum member coming to look at it, but if that falls through I'll post some pics in the correct forum here later on.  I didn't mean to hijack this thread (sorry OP!)...  If you are interested please PM me and I'll email you pics before posting a new thread, so we can stay on topic here.

Cheers,
Paul

It is not just the cost of gas for the outboard but how much it costs to haul it down and back as well!
Heck I am figuring that this year a trip in a 4 cyl car alone could run at least $25.00 down and back?
And the worst is that since my reply the most recent news I am hearing is now looking more and more likely it might not stop at $5.00 a gallon (especially if the Jews take out Irans nuclear program)?
Boy I wish they still rented out row boats like they did years ago at Back Hall Marina for day fishing and crabbing as it would be so much easier.
