What depth for Traps in April

So, I picked up 30 topless traps today because I have the fever bad. I started crabbing last year with the kids with a 1200 ft trotline. Fishing off of Kent Island. So, My question is at what depth is generally good for traps in April/May. What depth do you experienced guys fish?
MY kids want to go crabbing during spring break weather there are crabs or not but I don't want them to get discouraged. Any ideas?

I would try a lil further east like The Choptank or the Tred Avon. Depth I feel like 6 to 8

I would set out in a line that covers several depths, then move according to what depth is producing. I would try from 3-14 feet of water. Good Luck!

  You should at least waite til mid May for kent island or a little later.  Generally 8 to 12 feet but 6ft. can be productive sometimes.  As far as april goes, Tread Avon!

What a good sport .The south river produces in late April. I use to crab a pier way up by rt 50 bridge that did well early in the season.

South River sounds perfect since I am coming from Alexandria. Is there a boat ramp on the South River or is Truxtun park the closest?

There's a ramp by the rt2 bridge i think. I know there's ramps on the south, just not sure exactly where. I always crabbed a pier. Good luck..

  Yeah we barried the hatchet he is a good old guy!  I was going to show him one of my favorit spots on the wye but he shut me down on the tread avon.  But I still might do it for the wye get together.  I might even let him use my boat since he is not bringing his this year.

Thanks. Searching for ramps on the web is kinda tricky I found. Going to the folks that use them is an easier way and you find out what ramps not to go to as well. I'll have to make a road trip to see where I may be going before I go.

I too am looking for places to go crabbing in April and May. I am just returning to Md after a 30 year hiatus. When I was a kid I went to the Bush River area alot in Jul/Aug because it was close to home. Getting my gear in order now but I want to start a lot earlier than July. It will have to be off a dock for now til I get a boat. Suggestions?

Head south. The bush typically doesn't produce much until later in the season. I would think the Rt 50 bridge in Cambridge should start in late May.

  I know the feeling, had all my traps stolen last year.  They were all brand new.

 My favorite early spots are Slaughter Creek and the Pax. They go shallow when the water first warms up. Shallow water is warmer. I have hit them in 3' early May. Shallow to deep. You will find em.
