I have never trapped them only caught them by hand with a small net. You can usually find them in shallow watter 1 to 3 feet deep with rocky bottom. And its called a crayfish in the north Wink

Ha, you guys are killing me! At seven bucks a pound the fedex thing is, and has been pretty pricey for me. I'll give some streams a shot............

Was thinking about attempting it here in NY too. From what I've read they're basically found in all the lower 48. Youtube had a bunch of helpful vids for NY. And this may help......http://iz.carnegiemnh.org/crayfish/country_pages/species_by_state.htm.

I tried some traps where I used to see them all the time as a kid. I caught nothing!
I'd like to try some other areas but heven'y yet.

Minnow traps are supposed to work well but you couldn't prove it by me!

Check out the you tube videos; they are informative.

Just be careful. Apparently they can carry some pretty nasty bacteria depending on the location they come from.
I guess that's why you don't see any kind of commercial operations in the Northern states.

We catch them here in MA so I am sure they are in CT. Some of the cape's ponds are loaded with them..........
