I was at Verplanck all day last Saturday(6/09/12).   No luck until the tide started rolling in around 2:30pm.  Left at 4pm with 6 barely legal crabs and tossed two more that were too small.  My first time crabbing ever and I had a great time!  Also, what's with all the people in Westchester Co who drive up to the river and just sit there in their cars.  Usually with the engine running too.  I saw dozens of people doing this all day long & no one even gets out of the car.  Weird.

Had a little down time last night, so headed down to CSP, just for a half hour or so. Really just wanted to hang by the river, and decided to bring a couple traps. As expected, nothing going. Trying again one or two nights this week for a few hours.

Went out today Just south of Peekskill. Caught 15 keepers, none bigger than 5 1/2" in an hour and a half before the top of the incoming. Threw back twice that many shorts.

Just cleaned out any posts that weren't reports or direct responses to reports in this thread.   Let's limit the posts in this string to reports.

If you have specific questions about how a particular spot is doing or who is going out soon, please use the NE Crabbing Resouces section for those posts.

Thanks.

Not trying to be rude or anything, but, why cant this thread be used a communication tool for hudson river crabbers, as it has the past few years? It would cut the number of threads down in the crabbing resources forum, as well as probebly cut down on the same thing being asked over and over. I personaly have really liked the Hudson River thread the past 2 years, and enjoyed being able to talk with fellow Hudson River crabbers in a specific spot, rather than in topic-specific threads. Just my honest opinion, feel free to delete this comment, since it's not a "report or direct responce to a report" .  Wink

Thanks.

I appreciate your input, but it's about consistency with the rest of the regional forums.

Let's keep questions about the river and water tempature reports, etc in the resources area, and reports and responses to the reports here in this thread.

I just think that's an over-regulated junk of an argument.

Why two different pages ?  It's a single fishery with information that changes according to location?

Didn't realize I was being censored. Seems so unnecessary and overreaching.

So what constitutes a report?  Only facts , numbers caught,  Numbers trap, bait.

Location?

I have been on this forum for the past four years and do not understand what has changed about how it functions.

The crabbing tradition up here is very different than most places and I think that should be considered. There are not as many crabbers as Maryland, jersey and elsewhere.

Feel free to message me directly if this doesn't make the post.

Thanks.

The reports area is for reports about crabbing outings and responses to the reports.    The resources area is for asking questions about certain areas, water temps, etc.

The date, how you crabbbed, what you crabbed with, what you caught.    General location is ok.    Photos.   etc.

The "change" that's being enforced here is to simply bring the NE Crabbing Reports forum in line and consistent with what's going on elsewhere on the forums.    In no other regional report area is "SO WHERE ARE THE CRABS?"  and "ANYONE HAVE ANY REPORTS?" kept in the reports section.    It gets moved to the resources section.

While I realize how things have been reported in this subforum in the past, it's about making all the subforums consistent and not just change for change's sake.   There are more and more new people joining the forums from the New York and New England regions, so there's no time like the present to get things consistent.

i completely agree, i'm a part of a fly fishing forum that recently got destroyed by some mook that uses a FORUM as his personal blog.

I will stay in line im sorry im used to a more "un-regulated" forum but have always been searching for a very consistent and easy too look back reports of years past to give even a better picture of a fishery as a whole over a good portion of time. even if u feel like deleting this post. im very happy even with the censorship, i kind of mucked up this forum myself  Undecided sorry.

There's no need to apologize for anything and I am glad you understand that this is about consistency and organization of the postings.

Cornwall. Donahue memorial park. 1 hour. 5 traps. had to use chicken for my second time, i hate using chicken, but no place sells bunker in my area nothing. Ceeleys bait store does but not this early.

tide was real low and crabbing was a B**** had to walk over 25-30 feet of very trecherous rocks.

and believe me im FARRRR from liberal. I do like the idea of a nice neat organized forum though. to look back on easier

WHERE ARE THE CRAB IN THE RIVER IS WHERE IM GOING A BAD PLACE??? IS THERE SUCH THING AS A BAD PLACE TO CRAB??

its very rocky and my traps kept getting snagged on stuff. i dont think im going to crab there again. or maybe on the side with the kind of harbor/boat repair place.

i could take VERY short drive across the moodna to plum point, its more like a beach on this side, very fine sand and gravel

6/16/12 Piermont, NY: 31 blue claw crabs from 9AM to 3:30 PM most on ebbing tide. Mostly medium size legal crabs, a few over 6.5".
