New to Crabbing

I plan on buying two pots this week and will be crabing in the James River around the James River Bridge. If anyone has any tips or knows anything about crabing this area please let me know.

Is it worth putting pots out in March. I think I am going to try to get some out this weekend. Will I be wasting my time. Also do I need to use a weight on my pots or will just the pot with a string and buoy attached be enough. Thanks for any help.

You never can tell if it will be worth it or not. That is a personal opinion. If you enjoy doing it, then it's worth it.....There have been some crabs caught in Delaware already, with these warm temps you may have a great catch. Weighting your pots depends on the depth and current you will be setting them in. if they move, they need to have weight added.
