Ok i did a search on this topic and did not see exactly what i need to know. I have two crab pots and permission to set them off a private pier. The problem is i can only get over there once a week. I've been told the crabs will die in the pot if i leave it more the a few days. I've seen reports from crabbers saying they leave for a 7 day set. I was also wondering the best type of bait to use for this. I've also heard the funky old bait like chicken can make the crabs taste kinda funky. Let me know what you guys think.

In NC even recs must check traps at least once every 5 days. Some have been surprised to find DNR can keep track at times too. If I cannot get to mine in 3 days they are pulled. Chicken necks and check daily is always my goal. Never use 'funky old' bait of any kind- fresh is best.

Thanks.. I guess i won't be doing that this summer. I don't want to leave a crab killing crab pot unattended for a week.
