30 traps in and I have to duck in. So far It's a weak catch but don't like the electricity in the air. Gonna wait out these last couple of cells and get back on it. Can actually see some blue skies to the west.

well, as you can see i'm a day late and a few hours, but not a dollar short. got them all up. only had to take the one break. i probably could have weathered the storm the first time i posted, but i didn't want to chance the lightening. i can do waves and wind, but lightening, no. anyway, the seas were calm and the temp was actually coolish when the rpms were up. the totals for today were just a little above the last time.

74lbs #1's
34lbs #2's
12 shedders
2 softshells
for the first time i had to toss some white crabs.. real hard when they're over 10 inches..  Grin

first pics.. the ride out..

had my first real shed of the year. just a couple hours after i put the dozen i had in the tank. i actually had one shed from the first crabs i put in to condition the water, but by the time my daughter told me there was a soft crab in the tank, the others had eaten him up pretty good..

actually just went check and i have another one busting.. dang it.. well, it should be out in an hour.. hey, i get excited when the start of shedding happens.. would be nice it i could make the walk to my tanks without having gout.. let me tell ya'll. DON'T GET GOUT... it sucks...

Thats a flooded road right?  From the rain pooling or did a river or stream flood?

that's the road heading to the lake. it's flooded because of the low pressure pushing water in from the gulf. anytime we get a low pressure around the gulf, the tides go way up. the lake overtook it's normal shoreline and pushed into the swamps.. last year, i could have scooped crabs off of this road when riding to the launch. the guy that owns the restaurant had shedders all over his yard last year when the water went up. his yard was littered with spent crab shells.

Peavine rd looks a little wet.  Forget the ditch just crawfish on the road. laugh

How come you're catching shedders and I'm not.  Yeah, a few females and a couple of small males but not enough to put in the tanks.

I can see the grass is starting to grow on your traps.  Not long and we'll be pressure washing our traps.
AGAIN.

ron, i wouldn't be too upset that i have a few shedders. look at your catches. your almost doubling my ratio. of course, i'm still baiting light. two of the shedders i counted were the females so you might not count them, but i have 5 softshells in the freezer since yesterday. nice to have some softies this early. i'm shedding out in kiddie pools so this is a good amount for me since i only have one pool going at the time. i'll put the other one up when we really start catching. working my way up, but i got to say, a couple of 10 dollar kiddie pools have shed hundreds of crabs for me. some of the other guys liked my kiddie pool idea because my idea got out and now i see them doing the same thing. i'll go bigger some day, but for now, it's cheap, simple, easy, and i keep up enough inventory to keep customers happy. last year i had a hard time storing inventory and i finally sold the last of last years stock about three weeks ago. anyway, i haven't pressure washed my traps in two years believe it or not. last year they had just started to grow hair and we had to pull out because of the spillway. when it came time to put back in, the sun had basically cleaned the traps for me. they never got real dirty again staying in the water through december. this winter, same thing, the sun dried up everything and basically what you see on the traps now is leftovers from last year. now, i'll probably have to clean them this year since i don't anticipate the spillway being opened, but it's been nice not to have to yank traps out only to clean them..
