Good job guys! I'm with Jason- it will be a shame to see the sleeves cut off of Scott's sweater, but totally appropriate.

I really thought I was dreaming when I read this report late last night. Ronster I'm in the process of buying my first boat and was wondering if maybe you can fill me on this great bay and patcong launch sites .

Contact the Stephanie Cook in the City of Somers Point and ask about a ramp pass for JFK park. It's a good place to launch and is in striking distance of the bay, the Tuckahoe River, Great Egg Harbor River and Patcong Creek.

Nice report, Ron, and I just love the pictorials. They tell more than all the words combined. If I can pull away from the upriver fishing maybe I will get those necks out of the freezer and run downriver.

Great Job Ron! I love it when it get rough on GEH Bay, to the point you have trouble seeing your floats! (That's in warmer weather though!)
Nice to see you hammered them!
I didn't think you've be alone, glad to see Scotty and Tom made it out.

Wow! That is quite a catch for anytime of year, let alone march. That is offically the earliest I can remember anyone catching those numbers in Jersey.

I agree Jode, 3 & 4 in the traps you know they were hungry, I'm just wondering how were they as far as meat? Light??

So I woke up this morning and as I rubbed the sleep out of my eyes, I remembered a crazy dream that I had. It was late March in the New Jersey, I was out on the water as it was just barely starting to get light out, there was a thick fog, a stiff breeze, and a little bit of a chill in the air but, not too bad for March. The fog was so thick, I had to follow Ronster's boat and keep him less than 30 feet in front of me. We go to a spot and Ron said start here. We complied and within four runs our bushel was full. It had to be a dream. By now I was awake and realized that was no dream, that was yesterday.
It started late Wednesday or Thursday night when I got word that Ronster was going to venture out. I thought to myself "this guy must be crazy" the next day I called him and asked him if I could tag along and what time we were heading out. He said 6:00 AM Saturday and let me know Scott was coming along. I was ssure glad to have him on my boat as a solo operation that day would have been tricky. It's always nice to have good company and a fellow hunter on board. The weather report was lousy although, Ron assured me the rain wouldn't start until after 11, turns out he was right. The fog was intense, I usually expect an eerie calm with fog but there was nothing calm about this day. The wind, tide and chop made it tough to hold the boat steady to pull the traps, and the crabbing action was intense.
I really didn't expect much from the day more than to say I gave it a shot and would have been thrilled with a dozen. What an incredible surprise when the first run with Scott pulling the traps, yielded 25 crabs with only six shorts. The next run was 28, only 5 shorts. Similar results for all four runs and a full bushel. It wasn't uncommon to have 3 or 4 in a trap and one pull had 5 in it.
I had a great time back at Ron's with the freshly steamed March crabs. I headed home with a few dozen, got them cleaned and went to bed. Today I surprised my Mom with the crabs and she made a big pot of Crabs and Spaghetti for dinner tonight. This will definitely be a weekend that I'll remember for the rest of my life. I can't wait to show the old timers who tell me that you can't catch crabs until July or August, pictures of the perfect March crabbing trip.
Thanks Again Ron for letting me tag along. Thanks also Scott for doing all the work while I drove the boat!
