I've been fishing the perch run in Black H2O. Been catching crabs on bloodworms since feb 12. Sometimes it's so bad your bait only last 3 min. Fished today reeled in 14 big jimmies. These crabs have sluffed, nice clean shells unlike the muddy backs last week. There was a guy on the bridge crabbing, he had almost a full basket, when a female NRP pulled up and made him dump them back. I seen her writing in her book.

I think I'll make a run down , there as soon as the season opens!

Hmmm - no net, no basket, no tongs, none in possesion  ---   IMHO you are not crabbing

you are feeding the crabs and checking out your spot. No law against that

I go the day before deer season, look for marks and check out my spot, but I'm not hunting

depends what DNR guy you get I suppose. I'm not taking the chance to get burned. You catch someone in a bad mood and he or she won't want to hear I have no net, basket or tongs. They will see a handline or trap, chicken neck and you pulling it up checking for crans

If you go the day before deer season, are you carrying your rifle or shotgun? I would bet not. There are portions in the law where "intent" comes into play.

My thought process was Im just checking to see if the crabs are in the area. But i decided not to even try because DNR would probably say your crabbing and its not crabbing season. I will just wait a week.. Next week I'll have a net, bucket, chicken necks and will be crabbing for sure.

exactly most DNR guys would know your not trying to catch crabs w/o the proper equipment which they will not find upon searching your boat (so hopefully everything is up to date) but some would just burn you anyway stating intent. You wouldnt be able to fight it in court becuase what are you going to say? You where in the wrong.

It's not worth the possible aggrevation.

of course not ......

and I also believe that the politicians will always look out for me and make the best laws for everyone including the woodland critters.

and if you pay more money to the politicians, you can shoot more deer. Did the deer agree to that.

we are truly blessed to have the wonderful politicians, that we have, making our laws

and I come to a full stop and wait 20 seconds to be sure...  and I drive 10 MPH under the speed limit to make up for speedometer error.

well time to go and scrub the sidewalk

I was at the bass pro shop the other day buying a bucket of j.o. Seasoning and the cashier told me her friend is pulling in two bushels at a shot. When I said I thought the season hadn't started yet, she said he has his own pier and is crabbing off of it. As for me, I've waited this long, I can wait another week and avoid the trouble.

Well this is promising! I can't wait to go crabbing after this long, hot winter. Wink

Seriously though, anybody have a guesstimate as to how far up the bay they are this year already? Kent Narrows (and the piers there) are about my southernmost limit for a day trip from PA. Can't wait to see some pier reports Smiley

Cheers~

The difference is that they throw the fish back.

If you're catching 2 bushels of crabs pre-season, are you throwing them back?  Just by the fact that you said you caught 2 bushels means you measured them by keeping them in 2 baskets, unless you're really good at estimating.

Do what you want, but good luck getting out of a DNR ticket by giving the officer a BS line like "I'm feeding the crabs"

yeah kinda like going scouting for rainbow trout this friday the day before season opens and using a rod and reel with a lure or bait on your line.. think the man will write ya up whether you catch and release or not..... season is closed period until 5:30 AM Saturday same with crabs......  opens April 1st..... can not attempt to do anything until then .. I would think it is pretty clear cut..... Roll Eyes Undecided
