honestly.....this post just makes me want to make 10 more trips then I did last year and stay longer so I can take my limit EVERY time out...

This is what crying and whining by MD residents does to people here in PA...it ticks them off into coming down more...taking more..and spending less.   hope you're happy with your rant now. :0

I just think we should limit to Marylanders (come fish all you want) for about 5 yrs to help the population rebound even more along with stricter rules for recs and commericials. Limit to 1 buschel for recs no matter how many people are on a boat. Owners who crab off pier on private land must use traps or handlines no more pots. No females what so ever and even drop the catch for commercials. I would also make it everyone needs a license to crab unless you are under the age of 12. Also take on another 5 bucks per license. Also increase the size of what you can take 5 1/4 all times

The most important thing would be is have the DNR actually enforcing the rules, that is the biggest issue you have so many people breaking them and no consequences because there isnt enough DNR

Ok so according to your logic keeping pa residents out will increase the population how? They won't stop eating crabs just because they can't catch them. So is it for the benifit of the crabs or the benifit of your hip pocket when you get to sell to them. Sounds like jealousy they they can catch their own and don't need to buy yours. JMO

Let me give you an example of needing more DNR. last year I launched from Harbor Hospital in Baltimore when I came back in a tied to the dock and my father went to get the truck. I was standing around and glanced over the thhe other pier and I see a lady crabbing and catching and keeping  3 inch crabs if not smaller.

I went up to her respectfully and said maam I'm not sure if you know but keeping crabs of that size is illegal and it can hurt the crab population for our kids. She cussed me out and said I can do what I want this is America (always love that excuse). At that point  I was about to just dump her basket full of crabs mostly illegal size back into the water, but the fear of catching a charge prevented me from doing so.

I called DNR up and I told the person what was going on she told me they had no one to go out there and quoted to me "it is what it is"

I don't sell because I dont break the law, I am a rec just like you. Thats why when I say we need stricter regs on both recs and commercials how is that being jealous lol. It being courteous of the enviroment and the fisheries we live around and I'm not a enviromental nut either but if we all as a whole dont change something there wont be anything left.

Say if you can't catch your own and you have to pay no big deal. There will be less crabs to buy anyway becuase the regulations get changed on the comms. Prices go up (supply and demand) We all have to pay a premium in the short term but long term everything flourishes.

To add I also say suspend new commercial licesences for the same 5 yr period. THe only way a new license is issued would be trhough transfer of a comm to family if he dies or if his/her estate needs to sell it

http://archive.chesapeakebay.net/pubs/highlights%20-%2098%20Federal.pdf  Reds if you're capable of reading and understanding ,read this.It clearly states the federal govt provides money to and owns 2.2 million acres of the watershed.me and my wife pay a LOT of taxes every year, and I think this entitles us to use what you unrightfully claim as yours.I'm growing very tired of you Marylanders being childish and wanting the rest of us out of your toybox.

I'm well aware of what the feds own in Maryland, there is very little of it I haven't set foot on.
Perhaps you can tell me which legislator in Maryland represents the federal government. I betting you can't because there is none.

The Chesapeake Bay to the Virginia line belongs to the state of Maryland, not the federal government.

If you don't reside in Maryland and use the Chesapeake Bay you are a guest, nothing more.

Guess by your previous logic, as a taxpayer there I own a small piece of it.

so everyone that breaks down on the water has to get a towing license before they get towed in? think not....lol

I'm just saying, if you want to tow a small flotilla crabbing, you need to take me along.   Grin

But, if they are all broke down, I don't want to go.   laugh

No change in the rules. You just have to learn to read what is written and not assume.

Look
I don't have problem with any of you coming into Maryland, buying a Non Resident License and catching your bushel of crabs. (Although I think the limit should be 1 bushel every 7 days for a limit)

What I do have a problem with, is a non resident trying to interfere with Maryland's laws and Maryland's watermen. You, absolutely, have no rights or say in the way Maryland's DNR or Maryland's Legislature make rules or govern the state of Maryland.

If you want a say. take up residency.

I believe this thread was directed at/to watermen/commercial fishermen. Are you a commercial fishermen/watermen?

I am a proficient reader, which is why I am able to point out the inconsistencies in the argument here.

Just so happen to be a 20+ year holder of NJ Commercial shellfish license.    Didn't know I had to post a resume to take part in a thread here.    With all this being said, I still haven't said boo about "changing the law" in MD.

I'd assume.  They pay a very high out of state fee.  An LCC in MD is $60 a year.  I was told by a PA resident with an LCC his fee was about $450 a year.

My TFL is $450 a year....I can't imagine what it would be in PA.
