I agree with the 1 bushel limit for recs.
I also think that there should be a minimal price that crabs can be sold for.
Ever go somewhere and eat dollar crabs?
All you get is a crab skeleton with some watery backfin meat.
Not many folks would pay 2 dollars per crab for that trash.
Comms should be putting those back.

Good luck making a law that defines a hard crab.
If you go down the bay, a lot of the crabs don't get rock solid like they do up here.

actually MD pays a higher average salary, so more folks from PA and DE work in Md and commute
knew some folks that commuted daily to DC because DC pays 40K more
I'm sure you know some
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._states_by_income
I did it for 15 years. Traveled from J-Towne/Edgewood area to DC everyday (70 miles each way). You become numb to the traffic and the drive.

I just wish all the Marylanders who commute over the line to take all of our jobs would stay in their own state and comm. crab/fish/hunt there.
Well I actually only want Dreampixel to stay in Maryland!!

Dont think the comm. guy is getting alot for his crabs. Its the markets that over charge for them. Talked to some comm. last year and they were getting about 75 dollars a bushel.

I can't talk for the East coast guys but around here crabs are cut 3 ways. 1's, 2's and factory.
For me if the crab isn't fat I throw it back, ask Mutzy. I'm not going to sell a skinny crab for .25 a pound. That's me. Other fishermen look at it as money and don't care what the crab looks like. I try to sell the idea of throwing those crabs back, they look at me and laugh. Sell a skinny no. 1 for .25 or throw him back and catch him again 3 months later and he's worth $2. Another thing, look at Lk Pontchartrain. It's almost landlocked. There are only so many crabs in that lake. If ya take the small ones and skinny's there won't be any left for later. I just have talked to the door. If you would see the thousands of small crabs that come from La. that go to the picking plant you would die. Later on this summer I'll take a picture and post it. I'm talking tens of thousand of pounds a day. And the worst thing, It's all legal.

Which is why I was a bit disappointed to see the DNR open sooks back up for harvest again. The basket was worth more than its contents.

Less meat per crab and different taste than a buck crab are my two top reasons.

Now, why is anyone allowed to take 15-20 bushel of crabs that they have to beg to sell. No disrespect to you Ray, not directed at you either.

15 to 20 X $10= $150 to $200, the most common answer is to help cover expenses such as bait.,fuel, labor
personally, i think theres too much stink raised concerning female crab, dont care how many are taken, no matter what seems to be enough. i'm sure plenty of sooks released by recs who get a warm fuzzy feeling that they are part of a solution to save the bay and the crab for the children and grandchildren, end up in pots. yech

trotliners can specifically target females and make adjustments to reduce catching them. If your catching 15-20 bushel you cant sell, make adjustments and limit your catch.

If I can sell 15-20 sooks, I'll do it. Usually before I leave, I know how many sooks I'll be able to sell that day. Once I hit that number, I start tossing them back.
Whatever I legally have a market for, I'll sell.
