I was cruisin thru Rolphs the other day doing a preseason ramp check and the ramp is gone.  I talked to skip and he said that the are putting a new ramp in there.  Two new piers with solid concrete in between.  That ramp was getting a little sketchy but its gonna be awesome now!!  He said it would be done in a couple of weeks.  In my opinion it is worth the $15 and Im a local!  Looks like they have a new fuel dock too. They must be making it hand over fist!!!!

Did they say the fee was going to remain $15?  I bet they need to pay for the new ramp by increasing the fee.  Or the increased fee will justify the better quality ramp.

Yea he's been making a good buck there, especially on holiday weekends for years, no place to put the trailers, it's about time he worked on the ramp.

That project had apparently been tied up in local red tape for years. Glad to see it's underway.

He said no power loading on the new ramp too.  Its so easy to do, but he said that it will undermine the ramp.  I wonder if the kid on the golf cart will tackle you if he catches us power loading.  He is one of those quiet type you have to watch out for. haha

What is powerloading?  "Driving" the boat off the trailer with engine running?  Pardon my ignorance.

power loading is using your engine to drive the boat up the trailer.  idling to the trailer is one thing, but reving your engine so that cranking the strap is easier is powerloading.

Thanks.  Kind of guessed that as I was typing, but wasn't sure.

Wow it's about time, that was the worst ramp I ever used,at low tide you couldn't get a decent size boat out.I'm wondering if there will be a floating dock now also, getting from the boat to the dock at low tide was awful.I now might go back

Upriver from Rolphs there's one at Duck Neck Campground,  and a public ramp upriver from there...don't know about downriver from Rolphs.

thanks crab, have you used either of them ? I googled ramps and found a few but can't get addresses,I was wondering if they were better or if Rolphs would be the place to go still.I swore I'd never go there again until they got a new ramp, now they have, but if it goes to 20 too steep

Haven't seen the new ramp at Rolph's.  The one at Duck Neck is decent for most sized boats.  And only saw some guys using the ramp just upriver from there, never used it myself. A guy at Duck Neck said the public ramp upriver from them will accomodate deeper drafts.

Rolphs is the closest to the crabbing grounds for that part of the Chester.  From Duck Neck, it's a longer boat ride....but you get a nice scenic view of Chestertown if you're into that sort of thing... laugh laugh laugh

Southeast creek is down from Rolph's. Maybe a mile or two. Not very much parking and i haven't used the ramp so i don't know the quality. Its straight in and straight out so not much wiggle room if there are a few cars.

Just an observation as i have never used the ramp only drove to it when i was looking for ramps to use. I'm not an early riser and coming from Delaware i've never wanted to chance not having a spot if thats where i went.

Good input Grizzly,I appreciate it.I'll probably go back to rolphs now that the ramp is new.it is a great setup.last year i had a bad experience with the ramp and 15 is a little stiff, but it's not worth going elsewhere if it's inconvenient and you burn gas and oil getting to the crabs.best of luck to you this season

as of last year, yes. last year I paid $75  before the price hike. It then went to $100. Best bet is call Rolphs before deciding.
