Has anyone had success using conical shaped traps with blue crabs? I am using a mix of ring, box and open top box traps.

It all depends. A trap is only as good as the surface area it has. Tho's seem like a big circle, and a smaller one at the top. So that means if a crab were on top of the bottom ring but not in the middle the crab would fall off.

I don't know how well they hold up, but If they are more durable then your standard ring trap. Then I would say go for them IF you are kayak crabbing, or have very limited weight, and space.

IMO Topless crab traps are the best.

These are not collapsible but maintain that shape, so the crabs have to crawl up the angled netted sides and fall in the center ring, thus getting trapped. They use them on the west coast for Dungeness and Red Rock Crabbing. I am curious if anyone has used them for blue crab with any success.

The idea is neat, be a Trailblazer and report back. I see no reason why it will not work. I do believe the main value is for the marketer. Meaning a different design of something that already works.

Ya know lots of times that fishing lure is designed to catch fisherman first. The actual fish being caught is called a by-catch.......... Wink

Can a crab really walk up the side of net? I' m thinking that his skinny little legs would fall through the holes.

No problem, send me the money to buy it! (just joking) laugh. I really wanted to see if anyone had tried it with blue crab before I wasted $35 on it.

I have seen crabs run chicken wire like a tight rope walker at much higher speeds

I have seen similar traps when i was a kid. Nothing first hand. I would toss one or two in the mix and see how they work. Wasted money on a lot worse things in this life. Let us know!

Well in all fairness one must use both - however you failed to specify the color of the spud which is almost as important as the species of the chicken - which is both cases is Red - red spuds - 1/2 peeled - then split in half - for the chicken it is necks of the Rode island Red.
