4/1/12  2pm-6pm   30 traps   caught 13 keepers and threw back at least 20 smalls.

Nice!! I drove over to crab alley to see what was going on yesterday. Water was cold and clear. Drove over to the wye also, not a boat in sight.

A friend crabbed crab alley opening day trotline with clams. he said no other boats crabbing . he caught 0 crabs from 3 ft to 14 ft.

The crabs I caught were very sluggish.....I can't imagine they would hold on to a trotline at these temps. I find traps are the best option early in the year when the water is cold.

You got that right saltdog.. Last spring my old man and i were running a string of 30 traps right down the center of crab alley. There was a guy running what looked like 1200 foot of line next to us. We were getting 3 to 4 crabs per run and he was getting getting 0. He came over and we talked a bit. He said he wasn't catching nothing. He went home and got his traps he said.The moral of the story, traps seemed to be better really early in the season.
