Gearing up to make a few Keg Steamers
«

Been thinking about it all winter and lining up a few straight walled kegs. I have someone with a plasma cutter and sometime over the next month I am gonna build a few. Looking for tips from you experienced builders to help avoid messing up. Any pointers or links will be appreciated. Also I thought I remember seeing on here that someone makes stainless trays for the bottom to keep crabs out of water? Maybe I am dreaming but I thought a sponsor sold them?? I have one keg so far but I think I will have a few more coming soon.
Thanks!! Shedhunta

I've built 3 keg steamers over the last 10 years. 2 taper walls and recently 1 straight wall. the straight wall holds around a good bu. a taperwall hold 1.25 bu easy. when you get the tops cut ask the guy to be as straight as possible to reduce grinding. i had the racks and lids made for me by a fabricator that my company uses and on this last steamer it got very expensive. the older steamers cost around 35-50 dollars for the rackand lid, they supplied material. on this last one they gave me a price of 150 for the same thing so with the price of stainless being up I supplied the material and gave the go ahead. Well when they were done the price was 135 dollars so thats modern times.I wasb't happy but didn't complain after all my company charges 79.00 per hr for my labor.PS i would sell the straight wall for 150.00 but thats as low as i can go.
