Campgrounds in DE or MD near crabing grounds.

Have boat will travel. Elk Neck State Park rubbed us the wrong way the last 2 times we stayed there. Anybody have any other recommendations of a place we can rent cabins that has a boat ramp close by and doesn't mind if you have an adult beverage later on in the evening? The closer to Philly the better but wouldn't mind driving around 2hrs or so.
Thanks in advance,
-Rob

I camp at elk neck all the time. Plastic cups are the ticket and keep the beer cooler in the truck.

Yea, same here but the park ranger was a little bit much last time. He came over to tell us we weren't allowed to talk above a whisper after 11...which I get but we had 2 mini-cabins next to each other and everybody was around 1 fire. We were told that each family had to be in front of their own cabin and not all together on one site. I'm thinking it was just a power trip, but we're probably done there.

Anything related to the government or state parks will be a pain in the a**. Though not related, my wife and I used to keep our camper and boat up at the NRC in Solomons, MD. At that time we were both federal employees. Each time we attempted to book or retrieve our property on their post it was a complete disaster. I say this because we paid them to store our boat and camper on site, but retrieving them, obtaining keys to the gates, etc was brutal. Entry and exit had to be planned around their schedules and when traveling 3 hours from where our gear was often was difficult to fit in their schedules. Now that been said, it was relatively cheap and safe. I would never do it again.....

I have stayed at Tuchahoe state park and did both the Wye and the Chop tank from there. Really nice place but yeah had a ranger rip me about driving too fast. Taylors island at Slaughter Creek is a favorite of mine. They have a couple campers they rent out. I have always tent camped. During wet months prepare for mesquitos but the crabbing is great! I have also done Bay Shore Camp ground. I also used tents but nice place and great for later in the season on the Chester. There are 3 places near the pax. Have not had the chance to try yet.

Guys, thank you very much. I will be checking into all of these and passing the info on to the in-laws to see which one we all agree on.
Anybody think of any others?

The one for Slaughter Creek is Taylors Island Family Camp Ground. They have slips for the main bay in camp along with showers, washer, dryer, and a great general store. They have a few campers for rent. The boat launch for slaughter creek is behind the pub when you first get on the island. Great crabbing! I see a lot of people crabbing from the bridge too. I frequent this place twice a year. Crabs start running early and stay late. 410-397-3275. Not far from Cambridge.

Bit more of a drive and its on VA waters but we always go to Bethpage in Urbanna VA
http://www.bethpagecamp.com/welbody.html
. Boat ramp , slips , water slides for the kids. Always have a great time there. They also own another campground right up yhe road which is very nice also but not as much for the little kids to do. Also Cherrystone is very nice too.

Try to get to any of the above early Friday , also rent a golf cart as soon as you get there or they will be all gone by 5 on Friday. If you have kids they will love any of these campgrounds as they all have hudge pools and water slides and water play areas as well as being on the water. Cherrystone books very early so try to get reservations .
