The crabs I caught were very sluggish.....I can't imagine they would hold on to a trotline at these temps. I find traps are the best option early in the year when the water is cold.

To early in the season to use trot line in crab alley. I am starting the season this week traps work the best in crab alley until early june.

You got that right saltdog.. Last spring my old man and i were running a string of 30 traps right down the center of crab alley. There was a guy running what looked like 1200 foot of line next to us. We were getting 3 to 4 crabs per run and he was getting getting 0. He came over and we talked a bit. He said he wasn't catching nothing. He went home and got his traps he said. The moral of the story, traps seemed to be better really early in the season.
