another run up. was a strange raise. a lot of traps were empty. some traps caught well, and then nothing. no rhyme or reason. also, the number two's fell off.
94 no. 1's
23 no. 2's
25 shedders
the traps that caught were ones that had virgin femals in them. didn't take any pics of the catch but i have some others.

Is that a 9 inch soft crab in that first pic. That would make one huge sub. Thanks for the report and the pics.

That is a soft crab. But the camera angle makes it look bigger. It was probably just under 9 inches. I had half the shedders bust yesterday. Gonna be eating a lot of softshells soon. We cooked crab augratin and crab/artichoke soup last night. Nice when some of the bycatch becomes dinner.

Nice softies...... How do you have that tank set up? Never seen one like that before.

I have two kiddie pools I bought from walmart for 10 bucks. I use small bilge pumps to circulate the water and I use old plastic plant pots filled with clam shells to filter. Since I don't do too many crabs, I can put about 20 in each "tank" and the water will last between 5 to 10 days. When I go crabbing I just fill up four 5 gallon buckets with new water and replace the old. Works like a charm for my purposes. I also live near a launch so if the water starts going bad on me, I can quickly go get some fresh water. I know it's unorthodox but it's cheap and easy. My daughter watches over them for me while I work so I don't lose too many to getting paper. I probably lose more than sophisticated operations(crabs getting hung up), but as you can see, I make a few. Oh yeah, the bilge pumps run off of a battery charger.

Thanks for the reply.... Looks good and a cheap way to get some soft crabs... I may do this to get through this year until I can build a full system. Thanks

Crab augratin is one of my favorites. That is a nice sunset on the lake.

I can't believe you're doing that much better than me. We are only 3 maybe 4 miles apart. I'm working on my house and not worried about the crabs. Brought 180 traps in and haven't started washing yet. Maybe sometime next week I'll start.
