Crabbing tips

I wanted to share this site I came across the other day. I’m always looking for tips on crabbing. This site has some good information on what crab traps to use, best crab bait, crabbing supplies, snoods and other tips to help catch more crabs. I’ve been crabbing for several years and still found some useful tips on this site. Check it out,

good concise info, only thing I saw was about carry an extra trap or two in your boat,, thought that was illegal in MD.... only allowed 30 traps period.....
so extra trap or two in your boat even if not in use all at same time was no longer allowed?

I found a feedback link on their site and asked them about the extra trap. They responded quickly and said they are aware of the 30 trap law in MD and will work on wording that part better. I like the section on their Method to picking up traps. It's the little things like that I try to teach my nephews. Makes a big difference in your catch for the day.

Never mentioned about checking white crabs. If they are big enough just keep, who cares if they die in transport.

Not a bad site at all. Just about everything we are doing now but for a new user it is great info. Hope they expand. Maybe include a different states section with crabbing regs and methods in those areas that may be different or more prominent for those crabbers.
Thanks for the info

I copied this excerpt from MD Comar and I read it as no more than 30 traps set, per boat. Haven't found anything about possession of more than 30.
(2) If an individual is licensed to catch crabs for recreational purposes, not more than 30 collapsible traps or net rings or not more than 30 of a combination of collapsible traps and net rings may be set;

Key phrase here is "may be set", can anyone cite a reg that states you can't carry spares on the boat?

CRABBING GEAR
If the boat is licensed for recreational crabbing with the Recreational Crabbing Boat License or at least one person in the boat possesses an individual recreational crabbing license:
1200 feet of trotline (baited portion)
Maximum 30 crab traps or rings
Handlines
Dipnets
This is from the MD. DNR website
