I was doing some maintenance on the boat Saturday and decided with everything in good shape, I may as well give it a shot Sunday. I got my permission slip and recommendations from Ron and headed out at first light from Hamilton Ave.  The weather wasn't the greatest to start the day, a light wind blowing and light showers on and off.   I headed out Patcong Creek and over to the bay.  Things were very slow to start and I was only getting 2 or 3 per run on 24 traps baited with fresh chicken necks.   I worked my way up into the Tuckahoe and by 10:00 only managed about 2 dozen.  The sun was coming out by now and I figured I had enough for dinner so, I headed into the Patcong to give it a try on the way back to the ramp.  Turns out this was a great decision as things really picked up there. Not many on the first run but after that it was gangbusters.  i was picking up 18 to 25 per run, mostly males, mostly keepers and some with some decent size.  I pulled the traps around 1:00 and headed back to the ramp.  I counted the catch and it was 88 crabs about 90% males.  Got home, gave some to my mom and my neighbor and cooked up the rest for the in-laws. What a great day, shaping up to be a heck of a season if things keep up like this. I'll get a couple pics on tomorrow.

Way to go Tom.   I think the sun /water temp has something to do with it (just a guess who really knows about crabbing in April)  I waited until 9:45am sunday and the crabs were bitting . I also noted the water temp  was 56 at 9:45  58 by noon   But who is complaning It april and we are catching CRABs
