Headed out from RBM with my brother in law around 8:30am.........traps and hand lines........bait of choice was bunker.  Finished the day with 23 solid keepers......when i say solid I mean every crab measured between 5 1/2 - 6 3/4!!!! It slowed up on the outgoing tide......nailed all of them on the end of incoming/outgoing.  But wow........not concerned about the quantity.......the quality was amazing.......all were big, heavy, rusty and packed with meat!!!!!  I've never seen anything like this, this early out of Red Bank.  If this is any indication......Red Bank will do just fine this year!!!!  We hugged the channel between the 2 bridges....bouncing back and forth and changing spots about 5 or 6 times.....did the best in about 4-6ft of water.....All in all an amazing day!!!!  Will try and get some pictures up later!!!  Go get em boys!!!! Its on!!!!!

Philly Crabbers - I feel a come back to or should I say a migration down stream - nothing much doing in MD yet I don't think, but I am ready to try - just gotta put an end to this working stuff, it is truly interferring with crabbing. Wink Wink Wink

Nice pull. Didn't think they would be that big and full in the spring.  Then again the water never did get that cold and freeze.  Either way nice catch.

Sorry Dog but I was fortunate (Old Enough LOL) to have crabbed Jersey waters when there were 8"+ crabs, wether it was Tom's River or Red Bank. Red Bank is only 20 minutes away. In 95/96 when I moved to NJ I was still getting consistent 6 1/2 - 7 1/2" inch crabs. Then it went downhill. The last few years certainly look more promising and maybe more frequent bigger crabs will show up. It would be nice to see, last year someone caught an 8" crab WOW, but until they get rid of that 4 1/2" size limit I doubt it. That is the problem with all the vacationers taking everything. Those crabs would get to be 6"+ if they increased the size limit to 5". It would give more crabs a chance to get to the next molt. I'll make a social trip with the members, but the MD crabs are bigger, taste better, and it pisses locals off. laugh laugh laugh Wink

You hit the nail on the head, besides what's in a 4 1/2" crab anyway?  What a waste. Cry

(me going to) MD ... pisses locals off. laugh laugh laugh Wink
