Doc says I've caught the CRAB FEVER

« on: April 20, 2012, 12:09:31 PM »

Hunting isn't just based a success in bagging something but also by just enjoying nature.  This morn I felt I blended right into the woods.  I did see a monster gobbler but couldn't woo him from his woman, and called in two jakes that I passed up.  The morning started off great hearing four birds' gobbles echoing through the woods, then watched a hen  80 yards out cluckin, and seeing a black blob following her.  After that, I had eight deer walk by, three of them were 20 feet behind me, with four bucks and a piebald.  Oh and the mosquitoes were not out. haha.  I  felt I was just a ghost observing the awesomeness of mother nature.  Then my buddy texted me a pic of a md 7.5 inch mumbo since he went out on his first crab voyage of 2012.

Hitting the woods again tomorrow.

Hunting isn't just...bagging something but also by just enjoying nature...I  felt I was just a ghost observing the awesomeness of mother nature...

Well said and rather poetic. What puzzles me is why so many hunters, crabbers, and other so-called nature lovers leave their beer cans and other trash behind, shoot up road signs, cut down live trees for firewood, keep short fish, and otherwise despoil the very grounds they come to enjoy.  veryangry

I agree. It is like someone peeing all over the toilet seat in a public bathroom but not in their home.  I don't get why they leave trash out in the woods, esp non-biodegradable.  The cutting down trees, I don't get esp for just a rec fire burner not a professional logger because that is an art in itself (if they're good).  There are so many fresh/majority fresh trees that can be cut up for firewood in the woods.

Had a successful morn 4/24...only downside was the the bird had been shot prior (had infected wounds).  I am assuming during the start of DE youth/DE hunting season.  I hunt Maryland.  Called in two birds, shot the one.  When plucking I noticed it had infected pellet mark in the meat.  Shame that I couldn't pack it for the freezer, but happy to put it out of it's inevitable death.  If only, I shot the other. haha  Vultures will be eating good.
