Decided to stay local for this trip. Went to the mouth of the Beaver Dam Creek, just east of the Beaver Dam Road Bridge on the north side. Had 4 traps and 2 droplines in the water by 11:30 and crabbed till about 2:30. Caught a total of 17 and had to throw back 2 of them. I was MOST surprised to see how many larger crabs there are already. Only 1 of the ones kept was smaller than 5' and even had a real nice 6' 1. I also had mixed reactions to the number of females. It mean its nice to see that they are there, but I rather would have the males for obvious reasons. It was cloudy out the whole time with temps around 60. Not sure about the water. Great start to the season for myself in my eyes.

Day gathers, and now my catch begins. It shall not end until my death. I shall take no extra, keep no females, trap no sally. I shall begin early and finish late. I shall live and die at the water. I am the catcher of the blueclaws. I am the trapper on the piers. I am the man that crabs at the Jersey Shore, the man that brings the bushels, the crabber that means business, the shield that guards the realms from hunger. I pledge my life and honor to the crabber's union, for this day and all days to come.

Wow, a 5 foot and a 6 foot crab.....take that LA, your 10" crabs (which are  caught on a regular basis) are no match for our NJ behemoths! Where's Timaeus when you need him?   laugh laugh laugh

Kev,

I think he's talking about Beaver Dam up north. He resides in Brick

Haha Crabshack. You get the point Smiley...It was from the pier, not a boat. BDC, yes. I was referring to the creek in Brick. I didn't realize there was another one.
