Is there any difference between J.O. #1 and # 2 seasonings?

J.O. #1 is a seafood seasoning. Excellent for crabs, shrimp, etc. It is similar to Old Bay seafood seasoning.

J.O. #2 is exactly the same as J.O. #1 except that it is pre-mixed with flake salt for use in cooking crabs.

You can make your own #2 seasoning by mixing #1 with flake salt.

(Got this information directly from the J.O. Spice Company)

I personally have used Old Bay exclusively up until a few years ago. That's when I discovered J.O. seasoning.

J.O. is spicier... better suited for steamed crabs, IMHO.

I still like Old Bay... use it for spiced shrimp.

But now, when it comes to steamed crabs, I use J.O. exclusively.

And, the vast majority of Maryland crabhouses use J.O. to spice up their crabs. That should tell you something right there!  Grin
