Went out on the kayak opening day 2pm-6:30 with 4 traps and a handline. No crabs in the traps and only 1 short on the handline, a female about 3.5". Also handlined in a snapping turtle about the size of a manhole cover, he had the entire drumstick halfway down his throat and I had to wrestle with him a bit to get it back. I think I may give Milford a try next week.

That is a bit on the western side of CT. I would try out east more if you want to try this early. I make my homebase for crabbing in Old Saybrook usually and have not started before June in years past. Otherwise wait another couple of weeks if we get some decently warm temps without a lot of rain. 2 weeks into May will still mark an early early start to crabbing in CT.

Good luck!
