This morning I got up and let my dogs out.  Benny, my protector from the squirrels began raising cane at the fence and I thought one of the vicious creatures was taunting him from the trees along the fence line.  Normally, the squirrels will tire of the game after a few minutes, but the barking kept going.   I looked out and saw my dog looking down and barking and not up in the trees.  Fearing a snake had invaded the yard I went out to check.  My now exhausted puppy was barking at a large angry crab.  I had had an escape from my orange basket on the side of the house.

I had caught a dozen crabs in Galveston on Saturday and saved them for a Sunday dinner.  I've left crabs in my orange basket overnight without a successful escape before.  I went to return my escapee to the basket and found that two others had gone over the wall too.  A thorough search of my yard failed to produce the two other fleeing crabs.

Benny got and extra dog bone for his effort and the escapee and his nine remaining friends joined my for a grilled crab dinner.   Next time, I'll be sure to put a net over the basket to prevent an escape.

They do look good!   Try throwing a wet towel on top of the crabs and sit a frozen gallon jug on top... No more escapes and they will live for days. Wink

I had a wet towel on top of them, but they moved it out of the way.  I usually put frozen water filled Zatarain's bottles, but it was a cool night.  Next time I'll know better.  I always put a crab net over the top when I used milk cartons.

I wondered why my dog bone bill was so high last month.

At first, I couldn't figure out why all those Domino's charges were on my credit card, there's no one here but me and the dog and I didn't order them.  I gotta stop him from watching all those tv commercials.   laugh
