We had a lot of success crabbing last year in the creeks off of the Neuse River.  Tried our luck for the first time on Saturday and only caught 2 - both keepers.  the first one went back (a season tradition) and the other was added to the ones we bought on the way home  Smiley   seemed as though there were a lot of commercial pots out and in places they were not last yr.  when does crabbing in eastern NC usually pick up ?  We did all our last yr in the dog days of summer..

the water this wkend was 71*F

Thats odd since most of the commercial guys have been doing pretty well.
I will note that if you are handlining or trap crabbing ..you'll have better luck from 5:30 am(ish) to about 11am. Times after that your catch can be random. ( 1 here 3 there then none)
Oh, what depth were you trying?

We were fishin shallower water from our Carolina Skiff.  I think 3-4 feet at most in creeks off the Neuse.    We were hand lining with chicken necks.

What depths are good ?  We are goign to go go out again tomorrow, around 6 am.  Thanks !
