The "bait cutter" has been the easiest way I've found to deal with them. I've tried most everything, even a bandsaw

Jim Senior in Cambridge. Send me a bmail if you need his contact info. I've had mine for about 5 years and it was $325 then. I use a lot of bull lips and that things a blessing!

I've got one of Jim's as well. I'll let you stop by the house if you want to try it out for yourself. I've got 300lbs of lips in the freezer. I'll be happy to pull out as much as you want to test cutting up. You will never want to cut another lip with a knife once you try it out. Just don't leave it out anywhere where any kids can play with it. My son is 16 and I will still not let him cut bait with it.

I'll usually have a beer or two while I'm baiting my lines.....but, when I even THINK about cutting bait with that thing ......not a drop

Last year lips went to nearly $2/lb in Sept. I found a place in PA that sells them for $1.09/lb and my freezer was empty, so I picked up a bunch back in December.

Do you freeze or salt your lipped line?

I salt down the whole lips for 4 or 5 days, then cut them to bait sized pieces and put them back in salt until I'm ready to bait the line. (Up to 3 weeks later) When I come back in from crabbing, I normally drop them in the freezer overnight, if I'm going the next day. If holding them longer, I will cover baits with salt and then freeze. I normally get 3 days out of lips.
