I have 5 to 6 pounds of red snapper fillets in the freezer. Was out of bags for the vacuum sealer at the time and put them is zip top bags. They have freezer burn and I thought of using them in the bait box of a trap. They will probably come apart easily, but wrapping them in cheese cloth might hold them together. I 'm just using the one trap.
Would they be a good bait and hold up if wrapped?

A little hint. Freeze the fillets completely covered in water so they are encased in ice. Then just put them in the zip lock bags. They last much longer then the vacuum sealed ones. My wife puts the fillets directly into the zip lock bags, then sits the bags inside a freezer/tupperware container to hold them upright, fills the bags with water and puts them in the freezer until solid. Remove them from the container, zip closed and put 'em back in the freezer. I've had striped bass fillets that way for over a year and they are still good - no freezer burn and no strong flavor. Works with soft crabs too.

Three to four times per year. We also fish, ride bicycles, sit on the beach under an umbrella and drink beer, and sometimes we just goof off. It's only six to ten hours depending on where we go.
