New old guy

Hello All,
This older than dirt guy has been on or close to the Chesapeake Bay all of my 77 years, most of it fairly close to the Bay Bridge. My crabbing started in Woodland Beach on my grandparents pier about 72 years ago. I have been the up-down boat route, starting with a 8' dinghy that my grandfather built for me, up to a 28 foot cabin cruiser, and now back to a 20 foot center console. In the early days I used to keep the family in soft crabs by poleing around a small creek in my 8 footer. I could spot a recent shed in low grass in a heartbeat. Now my age limits me to trot lining in the Wye River, and I am looking forward to a great year.

Welcome Sonny, I bet you got that name way back when also.
It's obvious you know your way around the water, glad to see an old timer with puter skills to boot.

Thanks to all for the kind words. Answers to some of the questions/comments:
* Yes, the handle "Sonny" was hung on me by my mother at a very early age.
* Yes, crabs were much much more plentiful in my early days than they are now. Having said that I am encouraged to see the very gradual stiffening of regulations (both crabbing and pollution) seems to be helping.
* When crabs were plentiful I never caught more than I needed. That is true today. When I trot line, I catch no more than, at most, a bushel, which will make a nice family feast. BTW I make my own seasoning, which just happens to be the best in the Bay.
* I chuckle at todays "size" description. The term "no. 1's is what I call mixed average. The bushel I described above are usually culled until I have a nice size bushel, a 'heavy' bushell (which amounts to no more than 6 dozen); I guess my bushel of nice crabs would be termed super jumbo, or something like that, now.
