Mike, not to be a smartass, but the length of line needs to be in direct correlation to the depth of the water you're crabbing in.Obviously the depth will differ by the time of year etc.My wife saw a pic of a clip a guy on here uses to shorten and lengthen his.I think thats what I'm gonna do,although I'm hoping to get my new trotline working, which may take a small miracle.

Rapp,

You're as much a smartass as I am an idiot, so it's all good. Grin Grin

I was just looking for a trick o' the trade to shorten/lengthen more easily.

They work great.. My old man came up with the idea some years ago. We go from 8 feet to 16 feet in the fall. Just watch your hand when pulling the trap. Those things are kinda hard on your hands. Makes it easy to change up depths. I'll post a pic in a few mins.

Make two loops and zip tie. Never lost a trap. When the rope get fuzzy where you cut it, take a lighter and burn it a little and pinch it. I need to do that to this one laugh

If you use a pair of flat nose pliers, like linemans you can twist the zip tie off, this will not leave a sharp edge like cutters do. Also a hot iron can melt those edges down a bit.

The good ties can be as sharp as razors when cut.

Oh yea another hint, normally the black ties are UV resistant. The others will become hard and brittle over time in sunlight.

How deep were you? I'm figuring 10 to 15 feet just judging by your pulls.  Also, where were you crabbing if you don't mind me asking??

THAT HAT CAM IS A NICE TOUCH ...WATCHING YOUR RIGS WAS  informative ---would it be possible  to see a still shot or two of your boat  and engine ...you seem to have master the skill involved  with one man crabbing...
I/m approaching 75 and intend to  re-enter the singular  crabbing world after my crew abandoned me several years ago  ---kids do graduate from college  get married and move away .the ingrates think its too far to come from Maine  or North  carolinia for a days crabbing.. ;.I 've given them my pro-line and other boats and  am now left with a 14 ft and a 8 hp honda  which i intend to  crab  within  my beloved  chester  river.... ... contrary to  my brides order   of not allowed by  myself...But why should i head that order after 50 + years of not so much.
anyway any information boat  rigging information  you would share would be appreciated //
Thank you

Griz, you are a funny guy!  I love the one on one with the jimmies! 25 traps with 20 keepers on 2 runs that's 40%. I'll take that in May anytime.

Great video. I really enjoyed it and now I am eager to go catch a few! How big were they? That is a great catch for Mid-May!
