I received a reply for the DNR but they said not to post their response since all the questions can be answered via their web site or the 2012 Maryland Fishing Guide.  Here is what I was told.  With a Bay Sport License and crabbing from my boat (i.e., the one with the license), I can harvest one bushel of crabs.  If I have a second unlicensed crabber on the boat, they can crab with me but the limit for my boat is still one bushel.  If I buy my son a recreational crabbing license, then the limit on my boat would be two bushels when he and I crabbed together.  When I posed the question of what is the advantage of a Recreational Crabbing Boat License over a recreation crabbing license.  They said it crabbing only; fishing is not included.  In short, I can't understand why you would ever buy a Recreation Crabbing Boat license if I can buy a Recreation Crabbing License and get the same daily limit.  Why spend $15 to get the same thing as you get for the $5 license?

We came to that same conclusion a couple of years ago. We bought the crabbing boat license, and then thought the whole thing through.....

So now Old Grouchy has a license and I have a license for the rare occasions that we catch or keep over a bushel.

Some good info here.  I will be saving myself the $15 bucks and not buy a crab boat license.  Anyone I take out with me will be buying their own $5 rec license in case we get more than one bushel.

I buy the $15 boat sticker. We ususlly drink a few ( Wink) beers while crabbing and it seems like the man asks less questions when they see the sticker.

so I have 2 seperate licenses apparently....lol  sounds like 2 bushels to me..Smiley

I have a bay fishing license. My brother has a bay fishing license. We are in my dad's boat & he is driving.  Dad doesn't have a license but it is his boat.  The tide is going out and the wind is from the west-southwest at 5 knots.  We are running 30 traps with a mix of lips, CN's (skin removed) and red potatoes.  It is a Tuesday morning.  I was on the boat from 0600-0900, my brother was on from 0900-1100 and my dad was on from 0600-1100.  How many crabs can we keep?

Me = 1 bushel
Brother = 1 bushel
Dad = 2 dozen

Your dad can't keep the 2 doz. For a couple of reasons. One being 30 traps. Second 2 bushel max. with 2 licenses.

Let me throw some fuel on the fire. You and your brother's Bay Sport Fishing license does NOT entitle you to crab UNLESS you also paid the extra $2 for the Crabbing License, each. Therefore, you are in violation of the law for using over 10 traps and you are only allowed 2 dozen/person. Grin

that was my point.  it's all a little confusing.  Like was said before, the laws are made by lawyers - not us common folk.

The Consolidated Bay Sport License (Boat Sticker) comes with a complimentary crab license. The Bay Fishing License ($15 resident, $22.50 Nonresident) does not - they require the extra $2.00 Crab License.

Here's the link to the DNR licensing page:  http://dnr.maryland.gov/service/fishing_license.asp
