New member Intro

Hi, my name is Ed, and I am just getting started in this forum. Myself and my family live in Ephrata PA. My family loves crabbing, and all of our experience has been near OC Md. We are looking to check out spots in Delaware so we don't have to drive as far. I look forward to gaining a great deal of information from this forum. Lets all have a great crabbing season. Ed

Welcome.
What style of crabbing do you do? Handline from shore or do you have a boat?

Thanks for the welcome! Most of what we have done has been from pier's, using both hand lines and small traps. We do have a boat, but it is not quite ready for the bay. We would like to take our vacation in Delaware this year (camping and crabbing), so we are looking for some good spots to crab from shore or from piers. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Ed.

the reason I ask is if you do have a boat crabs are much closer then Delaware to you - the Northen waters of the Chesapeake are closer to you.

Indeed they are, but I did not think bluecrabs made their way that far north until late in the season (September/October). I have seen some posts about Indian River (which I think is northern bay), but I am not quite sure where that is.

Sept - Oct is a little off - normally late July or August to get kickin pretty good - last year I do not think it ever really took off because of all the rain - now the year before that I think they were getting crabs up in Havre de grace.
I just wanted to make you aware of the upper end in case ya did not know.- often times people go where they always have - or someone showed them and do not know about other places...

Ok, thanks for the advice. We have gone crabbing in the Sassafrass River before, but with someone with a boat. We are going to look for some areas in the Havre de Grace area, as you suggested, where we can crab without a boat.
