Algae on the crabs? Huh  Don't think I've every had that before.  How long are you keeping crabs in the float?  Are you trying to shed green hard crabs?  If so try just doing pink and red sign crabs.

I doubt that algae would hurt you after steaming.  Give them some shade if you want.   Cool

I get algae on the walls and bottom of the floats.  When it gets to much I just let the float sit empty for a few days.  The sun kills it.

build a second box and alternate them, pull one out and let it dry while using the other.

On a side, Im on bear creek as well, been noticing we have mussles again instead of barnacles. Water clarity has dramatically improved!

If you can try shading the box.  The less sun that hits the water the less algae will grow.

fishingtom, I was thinking the same thing.

I think maybe Jack had it backwards, but I dont have algae on any of my boxes, just the pool and that algae gets worse with sunlight.

When he said sun kills it he means empty of water when it completely dries out.  The algae cooks and dies.

I'd only save the peelers that have a "Pink" sign on the fins...Holding them for several weeks raises the mortality rate extremely high...
