Angry.  I went crab trapping recently and came back with 2 full size crabs after three hours.  I had originally caught 5 but. They were not of size ( so I dropped them back in the water).   I was still craving crab so I went to the supermarket.  When im in there I see these puny baby crabs ( some no bigger than 3") some females.  I was pissed  Angry.    Is it legal for a commercial crabber to sell these baby blue crabs.  And is it legal for this supermarket to also sell these crabs also?

Some states allow 5 illegal crabs a bushel, some allow 10% illegal per basket.

When your catching a bushel every 3 pots, you'll understand how you can miss a crab here and there.

Yes, it is because we cannot read a cull stick.

Goes back to an figure out what this cull stick is used for. Guess someone not a commercial wouldn't have a clue as to what it's like to cull the amount we do,but I guess everyone has an opinion and we all know what comes after that.

its not a culler. It's a deckhand, who's job is to shake bait and cull. Try catching 75-100 bushels in 6-8 hours while running through 400-600 pots. It's a lot to keep up with. No I'm not potting now.

Im pretty sure I could tell the difference between a 3" crab and a 5" crab..... I dont care if its 10000 bushels a day !!!!  sounds like you better slow it down a bit  Embarassed

When crabs are $8 a bushel, you can't afford to go slow.

ive definitely caught 3" crabs i didnt realize was doublin. shiz happens more than once, i dip cull and dump in seconds. i do have a cull box for doublers, maybes etc, some get thru, i think recs should get at least 2 per basket error.

You have obviously have never been on a working boat that is catching crabs Huh

You've caught 3 bushels so far this year.......I more than doubled your catch for this year TODAY Wink

Sometimes things get crazy....you'll cull one crab and never see the crab that's hanging on....you gotta move to make money.

I'm not "bashing" you or "tooting" my horn....I'm just letting you know the view from the other side Undecided

But, you say I shouldn't have any male crabs in those bushels Huh

The subject says immature females.  Are you sure they weren't mature females?  As in, Sooks?

If they are sooks, there is no minimum size in MD.  I think it's crazy to keep anything less than 5", but the law says it's OK on sooks.
