Hey y'all
I'm heading down to Virginia Beach in a week or two with family who all love to crab. Unfortunately I've never done much crabbing in this area and will need some help on locating a specific spot. I've heard Rudee's Inlet and near Lynnhaven but again I'm looking for specific spots. Also, the crew will include my grandparents who are in their late seventies and who need to crab from shore using handlines and the basket type crab traps. If anyone could help me out with a few locations that you've had success at I'd really appreciate it! Also as far as licensing and regulations I have a few questions. From what I've read I don't believe they need one as long as they use 2 or less commercial type crab pots and can use as many handlines as they want and catch up to a bushel a day. Is this correct? Also, does this change if they aren't Virginia residents? Again help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

YOU ARE CORRECT ON THE RULES AND REGS. JUST MAKE SURE THE POTS HAVE THE LEGAL CULL RINGS IN THEM. IF THE "GRAMPS" USED THEM, ODDS ARE THEY HAVENT BEEN UPDATED SINCE THE RULES CHANGED A FEW YEARS BACK. AS FOR PLACES TO GO, THROW A LINE OUT ANYWHERE ALONG I64. IF YOU ARE GOING SLOW ENUF YOU MAY CATCH A FEW laugh THERE ARE TONS OF PLACES TO CRAB DOWN IN TIDEWATER. SUMMERTIME GETS VERY CROWDED IN MOST PUBLIC PLACES. IF YOU ARE GOING DOWN TO VISIT FAMILY OR FRIENDS YOU MAY ASK THEM FOR SOME MORE REMOTE SPOTS THEY MAY KNOW OF. GOOD LUCK AND LET US KNOW HOW YOU DO..

GOTTA TURN THIS CAP LOCK OFF. I'M WAISTING A LOT OF INK...
