Hey guys...
New to the forum.  I tried a search but couldn't find any info...
I want to try my luck in the Hudson this weekend- Verplanck, Croton, etc.  Any advice on where to buy traps?  I'd like to buy local rather than order something online.
Thanks!

thanks, tattoo.  I ordered 2 of Moose's 10" traps.  They look great and he's going above & beyond to make sure I get them for this weekend. Thanks for the tip!

Best traps you'll ever buy, and once you use them you'll wish you had ordered more! I'm a recreational crabber and bought 6 from him last year (one fully rigged as an example, and the rest bare for me to rig based on the fully rigged example).  Now I wish I'd bought 12... I also use a couple of star traps (one of which I've had since a child, crabbing Captree in the 70's), an el cheapo locally purchased 4 door topped trap, and a small 2 door trap.  The moose traps out-catch them all, consistently. If I had more Moose traps I'd give the others to charity - not that they don't catch crabs, they do, but those topless traps work much better. I think the key is in the rigging, which, if the door lines are the right length, won't ever kick off any crabs feeding on the bait. One of the many problems with star traps. The two door traps are harder for the crabs to enter, the four door topped traps are too cumbersome if you want to use more than one, and the materials used to make the readily commercially available traps just plain suck.

Just my opinion, good luck, and enjoy your new traps!
