The Crabinator is in the shop getting a tune-up and they are backlogged w boats so I decided to rent one until I get mine back next weekend. Got to Beaver Dam this morn well before they opened and the flood tide still hadnt crested all the way. Out w the first tow and traps in the water by 6:50am . Four traps w bunker and four hand lines w turkey necks and it was was instant action for the first hour. The size of the crabs were really unbelivible for this time of year there and we had two dozen in the basket in under an hour until the tide slacked then it slowed to a pick here and there and we moved to the mouth of the main channel and when it swung out the were on full force til halfway through the outgoing. Had several triple keepers in both traps and handlines and too many doubles to count. We called it quits around 10 am and waited to get towed in. Almost 3/4 bushel in 3 hours and the sizes were incredible for early june . If we waited for the incoming and stayed til last tow we probably could have over flowed the basket and then some and Paul at the dock said the same thing that those who waited for the incoming to come back around really loaded up the baskets on them , but we didnt want to take more than we needed and it would have been excessive for what we needed for dinner tonite. Kept only males and they were all solid rusty guys no papers or whiteys. I havent had a good early season day there like this in a long long time. If this is any indicator of things to come we are in for one [Sam Hill] of a season because the average size of the ones caught today mirrored the sizes we caught in late july/early august of last year.

Nice, Judging by the action lately it should be a banner year. All through the marsh the crabs are coming on strong.

Also wanted to note that during the first hour blitzt when the tide was just peaking in up to the top , that is when we caught most of the 6"-7" consistantly and really didnt have to break out the measure until qbout 8 oclock when we got tons of the smaller mixed in on the outgoing. We still picked at the big ones through out the morn but it seemed like the incoming brought them out in force and in greater concentrations.
