I'm curious about how deck hands should be paid.  Is it percentage of catch?  Is it hourly, daily, etc?  I never knew the answer to this, but I need to know now.  Thank you in advance for taking time to respond.

Usually paid by the day.  $100 is typical.

Depends on the captain.

Some guys pay $100 for a short or long day. get on the boat, run out, too windy, come in and get paid.  Other days work all day, come in, wash pots, and load them back on the boat and work 14 hours.

Depends on the Captain. He's running the show and paying you, whatever you and he decide is what you'll get. Some Capt's pay a straight salary - some Capt's pay a split of the money made each day.

I pay my crew a base pay plus % for crabbing(12-14 hr day). Fishing is a bit different.
