I met Crabstain at the ramp 6 AM but the engin / fuel system failed. so we retreated to Tuckahoe and grabbed another fuel tank. a portable. With limited time we crabbed Tuckahoe R. area until noon with 19 Moose traps & chicken necks. With a good 2:1 ratio we took home 27 good chunky crabs, all jimmies. No real biggies but much better size and fullness than last trip. Saw a few distant greenheaders chasing BrianG's new jetboat but they didn' bother us much.   Grin

BTW we said hi to SJ Crabbin and his first mate at the ramp.   Grin Grin

I bought a new gas line for my boat last year in August and used it no problems but it must have been the old type.  I tried to unwrap it and put it in my boat the first trip this year and it was so brittle it cracked.  I went to walmart and read the package to make sure my new one was recently made.

When I had the fuel pump rebuilt last year the mechanic showed me the accumulated residue inside the pump. He said it was the direct result of ethanol. In Saturday's eoisode it turned out to be a cracked fuel line as described by Fishington in the next reply. Thanks for your comments! Grin

It really does suck that it happened to you as you were getting out on the water.  I don't understand why we have to put up with this ethanol [curd].  It affects us in so many ways that no one has even really talked about in the news.  You never hear publicly about what it is doing to peoples very expensive boat motors.  How about the fact that we all have gas powered tools that most of us strive to maintain and should be able to use for a lifetime.  I have ruined a chainsaw, weedwacker, leaf blower and others.  I bought rolls of new gas line in different sizes because this fuel literally eats them.  Conspiracy, nah, but I am starting to wonder...http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20111122082329AA78Kd6

The other problem with this (ethanol = alcohol) is that when you leave your fuel tank vented it draws extreme amounts of moisture out of the air, particularly in areas wher boats are used...near bodies of water. Running without a water seperator filter is just asking for trouble because the water contains all kinds of residue that gets into your fuel system. BUT... think of all those happy corn farmers and sleep well.  Embarassed

This ethanol is just plain bad stuff. I just had my outboard in the shop last week due to problems starting and cutting off right away and I thought it was a vaccuum prolem and they said it was caused by by containinated gas due to ethonal breaking down in the bowl of the carb and wreaking having on the small jet ports in the carb. Had to have it taken apart and ultrasonically cleaned by them and now it runs well but gotta make absolute certain the carb is completely drained at the end of the season . They even recomended starting and running the engine every couple weeks its not in use just to keep it flowing through the system using up what sits in the carb.

i really feel bad for you guys having trouble with ethanol . i have over 10,000 hours on my motor and never had one problem. i know others that have the same hours and they never had a problem . i never had to change a fuel pump or lines and still starts every time . it might be i never let my boat sit . its always wworking the water . it could be from crabbing or eeling or oystering .
