pretty sure this should go in "Northeastern Crabbing Resources" not in "Northeastern Crabbing Reports"

My grandfather was an amazing crabber and passed it on to me. I wish he knew how good I would one day become.

Crabbing has actually been really good.  With 2 overnight traps I've been been getting about 20 crabs a day here in massapequa.  I went to babylon docks last week for about 3 hours and got 16 keepers.  A few of my friends have been doing well over in bayshore too.

Where are the docks in Babylon? About when is the best time to go?

Thanks,

They're right off fire island ave in babylon villiage.  Go down fire island ave and bear left at the bait shop when you see pier 44 restaurant.  You need a permit to get in after 6pm, but they will let you stay until at least 8 or 9 if you get in before 6.  I always go when it's near low tide.

Thanks for the info. I'll make sure to arrive before 6, & save the permit fee.

BTW, does anyone have good locations in Nassau County? Would I need a permit?

TIA,
Frank

Hello all.

Looking for a crabbing spot i went to as a kid a long time ago.  Suffolk county, I believe the Mastic Beach area. It was a sort of place that wasn't publicized or anything, just kind of the dirt road which was later paved down to a marshy reed filled area, I'm pretty sure it was one of the creeks/coves in the area right off Montauk Highway, I guess that would be the north side of the Moriches Inlet.........it was an off the shore type of place, no docks.great crabbing.

I want to get back into the crabbing thing as it was a lot of fun as a kid, wanted to pass it along to my 2 kids. This was an ideal spot for that.....safe for kids.

Anyone know that area?  there are probably a 100 crabbing spots there with all the inlets and creeks etc. Can't for the life of me remember how to get there so hoping there's someone familiar with it.

Aside from that any other recommendations for good spots in South Shore of Suffolk.I've heard people talk of Patchogue, Bay Shore etc.  Captree was always a fishing place for me not necessarily crabbing.  I've been to Sayville but don't like the set up for the kids.

good to be here and see all of the information.......look like I'm back to another hobby!
