Not to mention the odor that permeates the whole house. I like Old Bay as much as the next guy, but I still remember the time I was stuck in traffic in front of the McCormick factory.  I steam outside ever since.     Grin

I had to do a job inside of the Baltimore Spice Co. building in Owings Mills around 1969/1970. The job took all afternoon, about 4 hours, I actually threw-up when I was done. The first couple of hours the smell was kind of interesting, later on it became unbearable. I guess if you work there you become immune.

Use to service machines in McCormick's Light street.  Had to have my suits cleaned after a service call there. Grin

I would never even consider cooking crabs outside under any circumstances.  I want the wonderful aroma of my crab mix to drift through the whole house.  I love the smell !  I wish I could bottle it into an aftershave.  I always wait as long as I can before taking the mix outside,  usually the next day, after my bride requests it.  I dump it by the back step if I can,  the smell lasts for days.  I also take it out to the garden.  My neighbor does cook his outside,  I don't mind that,  I open the windows and hope the breeze is coming this way.  That wonderful garlic and oil smell with old bay!   Sometimes I just pour it all over pasta and eat it.  Or pour it on a salad   If the batch is extra extra good,  I freeze bags of it.  Just writing this makes me want to plan an extra crab trip    just so I can use that last mix I made and smell this house up!  If I could make an air freshner out of it     I really would,  but then,  some fanatics just go overboard!               williecrab    creek explorer

That is being a diehard.   Grin Grin  I kill the grass in the gravel driveway with my mixture but definitely keep it far from the garden or the house.  The flies can have it up on the hill.  Smiley

That's a great idea! idea I was just bitching yesterday about having to spray the weeds in the driveway again. Should'a thought of it myself since the spot I dump the pot is free of even Phragmites.  Grin

It works great.  Between the hot water and the salt in the seasoning, free weed killer all summer long.   Grin Grin

it all depends on how many i get. if im doing an entire bushel, i load up the big propane steamer outside, but if i only have a dozen or two for myself and one other person i keep it inside. no sense in making a big production and a big mess for a few crabs. all tastes the same anyway
